Synopsis
Two people meet in a coffee shop and instantly have a connection. Despite their connection, they have completely different pasts; one had an abusive partner and the other was previously homeless. The film explores how they could be perfect for each other and be exactly what each other needs. However, nothing happens between them and they go their separate ways.
Cast
ALEX
Alex is aged between 18 and 25. They are extremely shy and introverted due to their experiences with their abusive partner, Jamie (see below). However, Alex used to be quite outgoing which gives them the courage to make the first move with Bailey (see below). Alex is extremely hardworking and can often be found typing away at their computer. They are very talented with a ukulele and has always wanted to be a musician, but due to Jamie's controlling behaviour, Alex instead is forced to focus on their academics (university). Before meeting Jamie, Alex was surrounded by a loving and supportive family who encouraged them to pursue music. However, Jamie began to isolate Alex from their family and made them believe that they weren't good enough to chase their dreams as a musician.
BAILEY
Bailey is a homeless 18-25 year old who tries their best to hide their homelessness by attempting to stay well-groomed. They achieve this by using their donations to buy a cup of coffee and they will use the coffee shops bathroom to groom themselves. Bailey actively seeks work by any means possible, even if this is odd jobs such as cleaning or helping street vendors. Often, Bailey can be found in the library with their head in a book. Although Bailey grew up with rich parents, they refused him any of their money or property, Although their parents were rich, Bailey was not given any money for school supplies or for meals. Their parents view opposed that of their own, they showed signs of extreme homophobia, racism, and sexism. Therefore, Baileys decision to move away from their family forced them onto the streets.
JAMIE
Jamie is Alex's (see above) abusive partner, although he abuses Alex mentally, not physically. They are a similar age to Alex; 18-25. Although we don't explore this in the film, it is clear that Jamie has a mental illness which is why they possess controlling qualities. Jamie seemingly has no family issues, their parents are kind and supportive, it is just engrained within them to act in this manner.
MERCH SELLER
Our merch seller has a bubbly and kind personality. They have a loud confident voice which helps them sell their fake merch.
EXTRA 1 + EXTRA 2
These two people sit between Alex and Bailey just as their connection is growing.
Script

INT. COFFEE SHOP - MORNING
ALEX sits typing away in a small independent coffee shop with a ukulele by their side. They are modestly dressed: shoes, trousers, jacket. They are deep into work; using software to create new music.
They carefully take a sip of their flat white and they look at the love heart pattern on top.
INT. COFFEE SHOP - LATER
BAILEY sits down and takes a book out of their bag. (INSERT BOOK). They're wearing ripped jeans, scruffy trainers, Jacket and a (INSERT BAND) band T-shirt.
They look over at Alex alone at the next table. Alex notices Bailey and smiles, Bailey looks away.
CUT TO:
FLASHBACK EXT. GIG – NIGHT
ALEX is in the queue to see (INSERT BAND). They are cold and tired. Shivering in short clothing. ALEX stands with JAMIE decent- looking, nicely dressed. They are arrogant and egotistical.
JAMIE (CONT'D)
Why didn’t you bring a coat like I said earlier?
Alex looks at the floor.
JAMIE (CONT'D)
I’m sure you wind me up on purpose.
Alex takes a deep breath and goes to speak and Jamie whispers in their ear.
JAMIE (CONT'D)
You’re a fucking idiot.
Alex goes to speak and the queue moves forward they step forward and Jamie grabs them by the arm.
JAMIE (CONT'D)
Are you even bothered about this gig?
Alex looks at Jamie with tears in their eyes.
ALEX
You know they’re my favourite band
JAMIE
Act like it then.
Alex forces a smile and the queue moves forward. They walk by the merchandise sellers.
MERCH SELLER
2 FOR 20, 2 FOR 20.
Bailey is folding some band shirts out and moving some boxes.
MERCH SELLER
Cheers for helping out mate, here have this.
Merch seller hands over a rolled up twenty-pound note.
BAILEY
(Overwhelmed)
Are you sure? This is too much
Merch seller hands Bailey a band t-shirt.
MERCH SELLER
It’s probably the least I can do.
Bailey takes the gifts and grabs their sleeping bag and walks down the street. They rub their hands with their fingerless gloves.
CUT TO:
INT. COFFEE SHOP - LATER
Bailey looks back at Alex and then smiles. Alex takes the same book out of their bag and they both look at each other. Alex Turns the book around and uses their hands to demonstrate they're on page 45. Bailey looks at their book and repeats, they are on page 55.
EXTRA 1 and EXTRA 2 sit at either end of their separate tables, blocking their paths.
Bailey peers their head out and so does Alex. They both smile. Alex turns their laptop around and it is the band’s name/logo that Bailey is wearing. They have it as their desktop wallpaper. They both smile.
Bailey stands up to go over to Alex when Jamie shows up. Jamie looks angrily from Alex's screen to Alex and grabs their ukulele. Jamie nods their head towards the door to order Alex out and leaves. Alex looks at Bailey and then collects their things together. They walk out of the Coffee shop and Bailey sits back down, disheartened and dissapointed.
INT. COFFEE SHOP - NIGHT
Bailey grabs their bag and leaves the Coffee shop. They sit on the floor where their sleeping bag and board is.
